Injury Prevention Centre's

Prescription 4 Safety.

Car Crashes

  • Use a rear-facing car seat for your baby as it offers the best protection for their head, neck, and spine in a crash (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
  • Securely install the baby car seat, position your baby with their back flat against it, and fasten snug, flat, untwisted straps through the slots at or below their shoulders (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, n.d.).
  • By law in Alberta, children under the age of six must use a child safety seat. When selecting a car seat, ensure it has the national safety mark and avoid seats that are expired or damaged (Transport Canada, 2019).
