Poisonings
- Always store medication, healthcare products, and household chemicals out of sight and reach of your child, using locks and child-resistant packaging (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
- Prepare for poisoning emergencies by saving the PADIS number (Poison and Drug Information Service; 1-800-332-1414) as a contact. Reach out to PADIS at any point in time if you suspect your child has been exposed to a substance you are unsure about (Injury Prevention Centre, 2025).
- Call 911 immediately if the child is unconscious, having difficulty breathing, experiencing seizures, or displaying other life-threatening symptoms. If an incident occurs, bring the source of the poison to the hospital to help medical professionals treat your baby accurately in a timely manner (Alberta Health Services, 2023).
