Transition to a booster seat once your child outgrows the forward-facing car seat. It is recommended that children use a booster seat until they are at least 145 cm (4’9”) tall (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
When using a booster seat, ensure that the vehicle’s lap belt fits across your child’s lower hips or upper thighs, and the shoulder belt rests across the middle of their shoulder and the centre of their chest. (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
Children under the age of 13 should be seated in the back seat of a vehicle, as they are at a higher risk of severe injury from airbags (Parachute, 2025).
