As children between the ages of 5 and 9 most often fall from playgrounds, it is important to ensure that playground equipment has guardrails or barriers to prevent falls (Parachute, 2024).
If using bunk beds, make sure the top bed has railing around all four sides. Your child should be at least 6 years old to sleep on the top bunk (Government of Canada, 2014).
Make sure your child wears safety gear including a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, and knee pads when involved in recreational activities, as this helps reduce the risk of injury from falls (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
