Prescription 4 Safety.

Drowning

  • Stay within arm's reach and keep your child in your sight at all times, whether they're in the bath, near a toilet, or around any water source in your home or yard. Children can drown in as little as 2.5 cm (1 inch) of water (Alberta Health Services, 2023).
  • Use inflatable swimming aids such as water wings and life jackets with supervision as these aids can deflate or a child can slip out of them (Alberta Health Services, 2023).
  • Be prepared for an emergency by enrolling in infant CPR training and water safety programs. CPR training can save a child’s life in the event of drowning, where every second counts (Alberta Health Services, 2023).
