Injury Prevention Centre's

Prescription 4 Safety.

Pet Safety

  • Never leave your baby alone with pets, as they may become aggressive or defensive towards the baby. (Healthy Parents Healthy Children, n.d.).
  • Provide your pet with blankets or clothes with your baby's scent to smell before bringing your baby home. This allows your pet adjust to the new scent (Healthy Parents Healthy Children, n.d.).
  • Ensure you wash your hands after handling your pet before touching your baby. This helps reduce the risk of your pet’s fur or dander irritating your baby’s airways (Healthy Parents Healthy Children, n.d.).
