It is recommended to use a rear-facing car seat for your child until the age of 4, as it offers the best protection for their head, neck, and spine in a crash (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
Transition to a forward-facing car seat with a 5 point harness only when your child outgrows the rear-facing car seat by reaching the height or weight limits (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
Secure the car seat in the back seat with the lower anchor and attach the top tether. Ensure the harness straps are snug, flat, and positioned at or above your child's shoulders, with the chest clip at armpit level (Alberta Health Services, 2024).
